Founded in 1974, the Bexley Historical Society is a nonprofit organization that promotes interest and pride in the history of Bexley, Ohio, and the accomplishments of its citizens and institutions. It sees to educate the community by assembling, researching, publishing, preserving, and interpreting a valuable collection of memorabilia, photographs, genealogical records, and other information associated with Bexley's heritage.

We will hold our 2011 Annual Meeting on June 13th at the museum, at 2080 Clifton Avenue, at 5:15 p.m. A review of the previous year’s activities and highlights will be presented. In addition, we will vote on five trustee seats for the term beginning July 1, 2011, and ending June 30, 2014.

The Nominating Committee has recommended that the following people be placed on the ballot: Nancy Beck, Kim Feinknopf-Dorrian, Barbara Hauser, Michael Kilbourne, Diane Peterson.

If there are others that are interested in serving as a trustee, they must be present at the June 13th meeting and ask that their name be added to the slate of nominees. The board of trustees will vote by ballot for the five positions.

We hope to see you there.

All are invited to the Bexley Historical Society's musem at 2080 Clifton Avenue on Saturday, June 25 for a family picnic from noon to 3 p.m.

We will have food and games in the shelter house next to the museum, which will be open for tours.

In case of rain, the event will be held on Sunday, June 26, noon to 3 p.m.

If you've visited this site before, you may have just noticed something new. The menu ribbon running across the the top of each page has another choice: "Collections." This subtle change represents both the culmination of an exciting year-long initiative and the start of a new way of doing business for our 35-year-old organization.

Over the past year, trustee Connie Ostrove and an intrepid platoon of volunteers, including society members and interns from Capital University and Kent State University, have been working hard to bring our operations into the twenty-first century. First, Connie and Treasurer Doug Wittig applied for and succeeded in acquiring a grant from the Columbus Foundation's Gordon Chandler Memorial Fund to catalog our collections and make them more accessible to society staff and volunteers, researchers, and the community in general.

The goal for the first year of this ongoing project has been met with the entry of detailed information in our computerized catalog for more than 150 objects in our collections, including documents such as books and photographs, as well as clothing and furniture. This represents a small sample of the numerous objects in our collections, some of which are displayed at our museum and many others that are in storage.

Please visit our museum as we mount new exhibits and this website to learn about items as they are added to our new catalog.

Thank you for your interest in Bexley's history and the Bexley Historical Society.
